CS-12: Catalogs and Databases

The use of databases to implement persistent, queryable, evolvable storage is ubiquitous across experiment data handling, grid middleware and grid applications. This area of PPDG will be to review  usage and plans  with a goal of  identifying, defining and leveraging   glossaries, interfaces, services, and  implementations. If we identify areas of common work that could be helped by PPDG  we will attempt to define and staff such tasks.

At a fabric level database access can be  provided by an abstracted SQLQuery interface. Is this sufficient? We should be including object-level access, addresing necessary security etc. The GGF working group in this area is reporting interesting developments from the UK groups..
